2nd International Conference on Biodiversity in the Congo Basin

SECORES participated in the 2nd International Conference on Biodiversity in the Congo Basin in Kisangani from 6 till 11 March 2023. This conference addressed current and future challenges such as the periodically emerging epidemies from zoonotic origin, global climate changes, massive deforestation, biodiversity loss, as well as the steep demographic growth in the region. Discussing these issues required the mobilisation of novel science-based answers and their translation into adequate policy measures.

The very well organized conference welcomed participants from different regions in Congo, from neighboring countries and from Europe and America. Participants included both scientists in different domains of biodiversity as well as organizations active in conservation and environment.

SECORES framed biodiversity into the holistic approach of social-ecological resilience in an interactive half-day workshop on Wednesday 8 March 2023, and in a session with other contributions on opportunities and challenges for biodiversity on Friday 10 March 2023.
